According to data from the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the active level of HFMD is currently at a high level. Experts warn that hand-foot-mouth disease and EV71 enteroviruses are highly contagious. To avoid transmitting the virus to others, sick children should avoid attending school or participating in group activities. Schools and child care centres should often clean and disinfect tabletops, furniture and toilets with a bleach concentration of 99%. Toys or utensils with nasal or oral secretions should also be cleaned with a one-to-forty-nine concentration of household bleach.
