The Ministry of Agriculture has officially issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of the Potato Industry" and will use the potato as a staple food product for industrial development.

The opinions pointed out that basing on China's resource endowments and food supply and demand situation, complying with the new trend of escalating consumption, setting up a big food concept, developing food resources in an all-round and multi-channel manner, and actively promoting the development of the potato industry are of great significance.

According to Zeng Yande, Director of the Crop Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, advancing potato industry development is a beneficial exploration of creating a staple food culture for well-to-do society, breaking the bottleneck of agricultural development, promoting agricultural transformation and upgrading, leading the green development of agriculture, and stimulating farmers to get out of poverty.

According to opinions, the basic principles of potato industry development are: not to compete with the three major grains for water grabbing; to unify production development with overall promotion; to take both industrial development and comprehensive utilization into consideration; to combine government guidance with market regulation; Implementation of coordination.

According to the suggestions, by 2020, the potato planting area will be expanded to more than 100 million mu, the proportion of varieties suitable for processing staple foods will reach 30%, and staple food consumption will account for 30% of the total potato consumption.

The opinions defined the key tasks of the development of the potato industry: on the premise of resource endowment, optimize the layout of raw foods for staple food products; develop a variety of staple food products based on consumer demand; and promote the technical support for raw material production of staple food products through variety selection and breeding; Science and technology innovation is the driving force, and research and development of staple food processing technology and equipment; focusing on nutritional functions, and guiding residents to consume staple food products.
