Japan's latest cancer 5-year survival rate, breast cancer 93.6%

Release date: 2017-02-22

Yesterday, the National Cancer Research Center of Japan published the latest 5-year survival rate. The average value of all cancers was 69.4%, showing an improvement trend. Among them, the five-year survival rate of breast cancer reached 93.6%!

This is the fifth time that Japan has published a five-year survival rate. This data is based on an analysis of more than 120,000 cases diagnosed with cancer in the three years since 2006.

Compared with the 5-year survival rate of cancer patients in the first three years since 1997, it has increased by 7.4 percentage points. The National Cancer Research Center analyzed this as a result of advances in chemotherapy and inspection techniques.

5-year relative survival rate (diagnosed cases in 2006-2008)

At the same time, the Japan Cancer (Adult Disease) Center Agreement published a 10-year survival rate for cancer in different parts of cancer patients yesterday.

This is the second public release of the 10-year survival rate after 2016. The overall survival rate was 58.5%, which was slightly improved compared with the 2016 figure of 58.2%. The survival rate of cancer in different parts was slightly different.

This data is based on 45,359 patients who were treated in 20 hospitals specializing in the treatment of cancer in 2000-2003, and the results of cancer survival after 10 years of treatment were calculated. The impact of disease deaths other than cancer has been revised.

Among them, the highest 10-year survival rate was 94.5% for prostate cancer, and the lowest 10-year survival rate was 5.1% for pancreatic cancer.

In addition, the 10-year survival rate of other cancers is as follows:

70% <10-year survival rate <90%: thyroid cancer (89.3%), endometrial cancer (81.9%), breast cancer (81.7%), cervical cancer (71.4%), etc.;

50% <10 years survival rate <70%: colorectal cancer (69.2%), gastric cancer (67.3%), kidney cancer (66.0%), etc.;

30% <10-year survival rate <50%: ovarian cancer (45.7%), lung cancer (32.6%), etc.;

10-year survival rate <30%: esophageal cancer (29.4%), gallbladder biliary tract cancer (17.3%), liver cancer (16.4%), pancreatic cancer (5.1%).

10-year relative survival rate (diagnosed cases in 2000-2003)

The comparison between the 5-year survival rate and the 10-year survival rate shows that breast cancer (89.3% in 5 years → 81.7% in 10 years) and liver cancer (34.1% in 5 years → 16.4% in 10 years) have a large numerical value. It is very important to receive regular treatment after 5 years. In addition, the degree of depression of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer is not large.
