Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology say LED flashing at specific frequencies may be expected to help treat Alzheimer's.
Using genetic programming, the researchers developed mice with Alzheimer's disease, after which they had a frequency of 40 in the brain region of the mouse brain called the hippocampus (which plays a key role in the formation and recovery of memory). Hertz's gamma oscillations are stimulated. One hour later, the researchers found that the level of beta-amyloid protein in the hippocampus of mice decreased by 40% to 50%. Subsequently, scientists have studied whether the extended course of treatment can reduce beta-like amyloid plaques in the brain of mice with higher depositional levels. Plaques and free-floating amyloid proteins were significantly reduced after exposure to mice for 7 hours a day for 7 hours of LED light.
Cai Lihui, director of the Center for Learning and Memory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said that whether such therapy is suitable for human Alzheimer's disease remains to be further studied.
