Feeding Management Techniques of Winter Suckling Piglets

First of all, keep warm. Lactating piglets require high ambient temperature. After the piglet is born, the pighouse must maintain a higher temperature. Generally speaking, the temperature of the newborn piglets is not lower than 30°C, while the temperature of the delivery room is generally controlled at 18-20°C. The piglets are additionally insulated, such as incubators, electric plates, electric blankets, and infrared lamps.

Second, eat good colostrum. Colostrum is the milk secreted from the litter of 1-3 days after farrowing. It is characterized by containing more immunoglobulins and magnesium salts, which can enhance the immunity of piglets. At the same time, it also has the function of stimulating peristalsis and accelerating fetal discharge. Allowing newborn piglets to eat colostrum is the basis for their survival. Not only can they improve immunity, but they can also adjust the appetite of piglets. The piglets should be allowed to eat colostrum within 2 hours after birth.

The third is anti-pressure. Because sows consume more energy after farrowing, slow-moving (especially elderly sows) and piglets like to follow the sow, it is easy to squeeze the piglets under the corners and troughs, causing the piglets to die. Especially those mothers with poor motherhood know that piglets are under pressure and they are not able to get up. It is very easy for the piglets to die. Therefore, keepers should strengthen care and prevent crushed piglets.

Fourth, feed supplements, growth-promoting piglets grow to 20 days, the demand for food increases, and the sow's lactation peak in 21 days, after this phase, there will be a large demand for piglets and the lack of supply of sows contradiction, Seizing the opportunity for fast growth of piglets, providing necessary conditions for growth and development of piglets, and promoting the rapid growth of piglets is one of the effective measures to reduce the death of piglets. Therefore, iron selenium should be supplemented 3-7 days after the birth of the piglet; 5-10 days later, the piglet should be trained to eat feed, usually a granular material with certain strength. Use pig feeds that are good in palatability, nutrition, and digestibility to promote growth. By the age of 25 days, the piglets will be able to fully feed the diet, and some antibiotics, growth promoters, etc. may also be added to the diet.
