The pharmacological effects of Prunella vulgaris

Pharmacological effects

1. Effects on the cardiovascular system

Prunella decoction (concentration from 1:100,000 to 1:100 million) can increase the contraction amplitude of the heart and the isolated frog heart in rabbits, but the increase in concentration (1:20 to 1:50) causes the contraction. Become smaller.

Prunella vulgaris water extract, ethanol water extract and 30% ethanol extract, to the anesthetized animals intraperitoneally, intravenously or orally have lower blood pressure, intravenous injection of antihypertensive effect is more obvious, and oral administration of antihypertensive effect is weak. Decoction (100mg/kg) injection in anesthetized dogs, can produce significant long-lasting antihypertensive effect, but there is a rapid tolerance phenomenon, after cutting off the vagus nerve, its antihypertensive effect is significantly reduced. For kidney hypertensive dogs, after 2 weeks of continuous medication, blood pressure decreased moderately and returned to its original level after drug withdrawal. Prunella vulgaris stems, leaves, ears and whole grasses have antihypertensive effect, the role of ear is weak.

Some people think that the blood pressure of Prunella vulgaris has nothing to do with the inorganic salts contained therein. However, it was also suggested that the decompression effect of Prunella vulgaris decoction after removal of its inorganic salts was minimal, so the effect of P. vulgaris's antihypertensive effect cannot exclude the inorganic salts (mainly potassium) contained therein. The decompression components and the principle of pressure reduction have yet to be further studied.

50% of Prunella decoction has a dilation effect on the blood vessels of the lower extremities, but the dilation of blood vessels at high concentrations is not significant.

2. Anti-pathogenic microorganisms

In vitro experiments showed that Prunella decoction had a certain inhibitory effect on Shigella, Salmonella typhi, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and human Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Prunella vulgaris can alleviate the pulmonary lesions in experimental tuberculosis mice. Prunella vulgaris juice has inhibitory effects on staphylococcus aureus, beta-hemolytic streptococcus, Escherichia coli, typhoid bacillus, dysentery bacillus, diphtheria bacillus, anthrax bacilli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The water infusion (1:4) also inhibited some common pathogenic dermatophytes such as Brassica chrysogenum, Audrey spores, etc. in vitro.

3. The immunosuppressive effect experiment showed that the subcutaneous injection of 6g (crude drug)/kg of Prunella vulgaris could significantly increase the adrenal glands of guinea pigs and mice, and the thymus and spleen obviously shrank. P. vulgaris decoction (1:1) intramuscular injection of 3g (crude drug)/kg can increase the weight of adrenal glands in rats, and reduce the weight of thymus and spleen, in which the thymus gland significantly shrinks, which is 63.4 in average compared with the control group. %. In addition, the structure of the adrenal cortex, thymus, and spleen can be altered.

4. Other effects

Prunella decoction (1:50 ~ 1:200) can make the rabbit uterine contraction. In isolated rabbit intestine, high concentration can enhance the peristalsis, the duodenum is the most sensitive, ileal sensitivity is poor. It has been reported that 100% Prunella decoction can inhibit the growth of mouse S180 and Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, but the mortality rate is higher than that of the non-administered group.

Prunella vulgaris liquid decoction has inhibitory effect on the swelling of mouse croton oil ear and the swelling of rat yeast toe.
